Gabrielle Christina Victoria Douglas 3 was born on December 31, 1995. 4 is an American artist gymnast. She is the 2012 Olympic all-around champion.
Douglas began gymnastics at the age of 6. 5 She trained at Excalibur Gymnastics in Virginia Beach, Virginia. 6 In 2010, she won the junior all-around title at the US National Championships. 7 She also won the all-around title at the 2011 Pan American Games.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Douglas was a member of the gold medal-winning US women's gymnastics team. 8 She also won the individual gold medal in the all-around competition. 9 Douglas was the first African-American gymnast to win the Olympic all-around title.
After the Olympics, Douglas became a media sensation. She appeared on the cover of Time magazine and was featured in numerous television shows and commercials. 10 She also wrote a book, "Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith," which was published in 2012.
Douglas continued to compete in gymnastics after the Olympics. She won the all-around title at the 2013 US National Championships. 11 She also competed at the 2013 World Championships, where she won a silver medal in the all-around competition. 12 Douglas retired from gymnastics in 2016.
