Early Life and Career
Piotr Świerczewski was born on April 8, 1972, in Nowy Sącz, Poland. He began his football career at the age of 10, playing for his local team, Sandecja Nowy Sącz. In 1990, he moved to GKS Katowice, where he made his professional debut. Świerczewski quickly established himself as one of the most promising young players in Poland, and in 1993, he was named the Polish Footballer of the Year.
International Career
Świerczewski made his international debut for Poland in 1992. He went on to represent his country at two FIFA World Cups (2002 and 2006) and two UEFA European Championships (2008 and 2012). Świerczewski was a key member of the Polish team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup. He was also named to the UEFA Euro 2008 Team of the Tournament.
Club Career
After leaving GKS Katowice in 1995, Świerczewski played for a number of clubs in Europe, including AS Saint-Étienne, Olympique de Marseille, and Birmingham City. He returned to Poland in 2008 to play for Wisła Kraków, where he won the Ekstraklasa title in 2009 and 2011. Świerczewski retired from professional football in 2014.
